Challenges facing the various groups are all similar, and the approach was a fantastic opportunity to start new discussions. It was also a chance for sectors to work more effectively together to understand and develop ideas to improve apprenticeship programmes for the sector in Wales.

The day included a presentation from Simon Phelps of Welsh Government focusing on providing an overview of the apprenticeship landscape in Wales. There was also a presentation from Keith Boswell of Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, which talked about the experience of the three Welsh Fire and Rescue Services in developing an apprenticeship framework that met their needs and working to identify training partners for their delivery.

The focus for the remainder of the day was to encourage discussion between these organisations, to identify synergies and where collaboration would benefit not only the organisation, but also the whole sector.

The event was a huge success, with delegates keen for a second event with interim discussions taking place in smaller sub groups focusing on specific themes. The next event will take place in September 2019.
