To address the need for better training and opportunities for those working with individuals experiencing, at risk of, or recovering from domestic and sexual abuse, sector employers and the Women’s Aid Federation developed an apprenticeship standard to enhance skills in the third and public sectors.
The development of the apprenticeship standard is instrumental in supporting government ambitions and targets to tackle domestic and sexual abuse and violence and improving support provision across the multi-agency environment.
The new standard was also built to help provide career pathways for those wishing to enter the workforce, or those in voluntary roles that wanted to progress into support provision. Further, it provides opportunities to those with lived experience of domestic and sexual abuse. These individuals are so often on the frontline, providing vital emotional and practical support to victims and survivors, and advocating for change and improved public services.
